Regional Officer Training
Affirming its commitment to training collegiate officers, Phi Mu held its second annual Regional Officer Training (ROT) sessions in January and February. Dedicated National and Area Officers coordinated and facilitated these trainings to share their knowledge of operations, membership and finance with Phi Mu’s recently elected chapter leaders. Different from the more timeintensive Leadership Conferences held in the past, these trainings were designed to be one-day, drive-in training experiences.
Each ROT provided a small group atmosphere with curriculum that focused on giving chapter officers the tools they need to excel in their positions. In all, more than 1,000 Phi Mu leaders from more than 110 chapters participated in 18 Regional Officer Trainings that were held on college campuses across the country.
ROT programming covered everything from Ritual and risk management to scoring well on the Commitment to Excellence (CTE). The day was packed full of information and included time to connect with attendees from neighboring chapters. “The information presented at ROT was pertinent to the daily operations of our collegiate chapters,” said Area Membership Director, Jennifer Slovensky, AΔ, who facilitated ROTs in Area III.
The collegians enjoyed spending time with officers from other chapters while participating in sessions related to the positions of chapter president, vice president, membership director, public relations chairman, social chairman/risk manager, treasurer and Phi director.
Meredith Ricard, President of Kappa Iota Chapter at Northwestern State University, echoed comments made by many attendees. “Regional Officer Training was such a great experience; not only did we learn things from our facilitators but from other collegians as well,” she said. “Only Phi Mu could make a day full of learning fun!”
While collegians enjoyed exchanging ideas with other chapters, the facilitators also benefited from the opportunity to strengthen their chapter relationships. Jessica Sopko, ΔB, Area I Operations and Finance Director, added, “The structure of ROTs allows chapter officers to get individualized attention from their area officers, and also provides them time to network and share ideas with other chapters.”
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s Regional Officer Trainings!
I really enjoyed attending Regional Officer Training. I loved meeting Phi Mus from neighboring chapters. It was such a great opportunity being able to talk with other vice presidents. We were able to swap ideas, talk about problems we encounter, and come up with innovative solutions to those problems. Angeline De Chiara Gamma Delta Chapter
